• What program do you use?
  • General Art: Clip Studio Paint EX

    I like CSP a lot because it's:

    • Geared towards making art (unlike photoshop, an image editor), so it feels very nice to draw in (very similar to paint tool sai) and
    • Geared towards making comics and has animation features, unlike paint tool sai (completely lacking in necessary tools like text, a timeline, etc.).

It's a very nice program! It's very much like a mix of PS & SAI, but with additional features geared towards comic making (perspective rulers, page management, panelling tools, etc).

My process is pretty program agnostic so if you're trying to get a similar feel to your art using CSP won't help in particular, but it's a nice program and I highly recommend checking it out. It goes on sale pretty often, generally around march, june, & november.

Personally I use CSP EX because I make a lot of comics. If you're not sure whether to get PRO or EX, I wrote a little post explaining the difference [link: here].

    Pixel Art: Aseprite

Aseprite is just a very nice program for pixelling in! It does take a little getting used to, as it has its own workflow, but once you get a grasp on how it works it's very intuitive I think! It's timeline is particularly nice I think.

If you're looking for a free pixel art program, GraphicsGale is a classic which became freeware a while ago! I greatly prefer Aseprite, but hey! It's free, and it has all the features you need :^)

    3D Modelling: Blender

I used to use Maya, but then I found out about the 2.8 update for blender actually completely overhauled its UI & reworked the program's workflow to be more intuitive and decided to check it out, and boy howdy! It's SO much nicer to model in than Maya, AND its free. sexy as hell I think! Yet to try out its rigging & animation workflows, which do happen to be Maya's strength so I may stick to that, but for actual modelling Blender is wonderful :)

What are your brush settings? »
  • Do you take requests or commissions?
  • Not currently! My health does not really make it feasible for me to do so, so unless that changes it's unlikely that I'll be opening them any time soon. However you can support me on [link: patreon] or on [link: ko-fi], if you'd like.

  • How long have you been drawing/Where did you learn?
  • Personally, I consider myself to be self taught. I've been drawing since I was a child, and I started taking it seriously when I was just 11 years old!

I did study art at school & I studied animation for a year at university, but due to my health I had to leave and had some pretty spotty attendance. As such I didn't find myself learning anything new technique-wise while I was there, what I actually learnt at university was the history of animation!

When I was younger I used to read like every tutorial posted on deviantart. After a while I started to get a feel for what I felt was and what wasn't good advice, and I compiled tutorials I liked into a little thread on a forum that no longer exists...

Eventually that archive grew unruly to manage, so I created a blog to keep things together on tumblr, which you can find at Helpful Harrie! I've had it since 2014, so if you need help with something have a look, there's a good chance there'll be a post about it :^)!

In short, when I feel myself becoming frustrated with my art I take a step back and I think about what it is that my art is lacking.

This isn't always easy to do, so reviewing the fundamentals of art is always a good place to start, as well as looking at art that inspires me and trying to identify what it is about their work that resonates with me so much! When I think I have an idea of what I'm lacking, I read about it, study, experiment, and generally try to improve that aspect of my art.

Self study is not an easy task by any means, so don't be afraid to ask your friends and the people you look up to for advice!

  • Do you have any plans for your characters? Are you making anything?
  • I do and I am! Currently, I'm working on a webcomic and trying to get a good head start on CH2 before I release it, so it will be quite a long time before I launch it but I'm chipping away at it as best I can. You can keep an eye on my progress by visiting my blog, there's a progress bar in the sidebar :)

  • Who are the Wyrm Babies?
  • My friend's characters! You can find out more about them (& my own characters) on my character page

  • Can we draw your characters?
  • I would be DELIGHTED! 🥺💕

  • Do you plan to finish Poplocke?
  • Maybe!! I'm not done with it, but I can't guarantee that I'll go all the way to the league with it as I started it as a way to test the waters with long form comic making and always intended to prioritise original works if I had something I wanted to make—which I do! But while it's currently on the backburner, when HotS launches and I've a little more time and can spread my focus a little more, I do intend to pick it back up.

  • What resource pack do you use?
  • 1.12.2: The Chickens Are From Animania

If you are after the chickens, it's not part of any resource pack. See above for the mod.

    Aaron's Quadral Resource Pack

With this resource pack you'll experience Minecraft in a much prettier and enjoyable way. It stands out for it's bright, simplistic artstyle and vibrant colours. It covers nearly every default texture, features an original and pleasing design, as well as block variants and a custom font.

    Custom Resource Pack

Primarily I use Aaron's Quadral pack, but it does not support biomes o'plenty. So, I have been making my own add-on pack to integrate BOP into quadral - but this is not something I can release as it is made using ignaf's work. However, I have contacted them, and may be working to officially release the add-on with ignaf! This will take time however, so please do not expect immediate results.

However, because I like to play with a lot of mods, eventually I plan to just make my own texture pack which unifies all of the mods that I use from scratch. This will be released when it is done, if I finish it. There is no ETA.
